History of the Show

1985 – Started as a fundraiser for the San Francisco Friends of Recreation and Parks, the Show was originally held at Fort Mason and was named the San Francisco Landscape Garden Show.

1997 – Salmon Bay Events, a Seattle-based company owned by Duane Kelly, acquired the show. The name was changed to the San Francisco Flower & Garden Show.

1998 – The Show is moved to the Cow Palace in Daly City and covers nearly 6 acres.

2009 – The Show is moved to the San Mateo Event Center. Salmon Bay announces it is closing the Show. At the 11th hour, Special Events, a Bay Area rental company owned by Christine and Weston Cook, stepped in and acquired the show, saving it from closing.

2013 – The Show is acquired by Larsen Enterprises, LLC.

2017 – The Show is moving back to the Cow Palace!  After 9 years and endless requests from our Garden Creators, exhibitors, and attendees, Larsen Enterprises, LLC announced the return to the Cow Palace for the 2018 Show and beyond.

2019 - Due to unresolved scheduling issues at the Cow Palace and the pending State Legislature's move to tear down or sell off the Cow Palace, the San Francisco Flower & Garden Show was moved to Cal Expo, in Sacramento.  The Sacramento gardening community has enthusiastically embraced the move to their hometown!

2019 - July - Without a suitable facility in the Bay Area for the 2020 San Francisco Flower & Garden Show, the decision was made to wait until 2021 to hold the next San Francisco Flower & Garden Show.  A new event to be produced by Cal State Enterprises and held at Cal Expo, April 2020 will be available for the enjoyment of garden enthusiasts from all over the State.  The San Fran-Nor Cal Flower & Garden Show is born.

2020-2021 - The Show was postponed to April 7-10, 2022 due to Covid-19 restrictions.

2021 - The Show returns to the Bay area and is renamed the San Francisco Bay Flower & Garden Show.  The new home will be the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, CA.  Located in the beautiful Tri-Valley area.  The grounds are within 40 miles of the South bay, Eastbay, San Francisco, and the many communities in the Central Valley.
